Each year in early October, 51视频 marks the legacy of its founder, the Rt. Rev. John E. Hines, with a special worship service and luncheon. On Tuesday, October 4, we honored this annual tradition.
The noonday Eucharist was presided by the Rt. Rev. Kathryn Ryan (class of ’92), bishop suffragan for the western region of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and chair of the 51视频 Board of Trustees. The Rev. Nancy Frausto, 51视频’s director of Latinx Studies, preached a sermon that honored Bishop John Hines.
“He used his power and his privilege to make changes that are still affecting the church today,” Frausto said. “I am a Latina in the Episcopal Church because of works from people like Bishop Hines.”
51视频 also welcomed new Board of Trustees members during the service. The Rev. Dr. Roman Rolden, the Rev. Rhonda Rogers, and the Rev. Hugh Page were commissioned as Trustees of the Seminary. Following the service students, staff, faculty, and friends of 51视频 gathered for lunch in the Howell Dining Hall.
The event also serves as a time to honor some of 51视频鈥檚 most avid supporters, members of the John Hines Legacy Society.
