Mission Statement
Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) at 51视频 are committed to promoting human flourishing as a spiritual and sacred right. We believe social transformation starts by healing our own bias, challenging our comfort zones, and connecting with the experiences of those who are different than we are. CSJ aspires to serve the people of Austin by providing a brave, inclusive community and expert resources for reflection, education and informed social justice action.
Past Events of CSJ have included:
Speaker Series: Presentation on the 5 Evils of Society with 鈥淧ebble鈥� McCleary: Applying a trauma-informed approach to systemic trauma caused by Colonialism, Patriarchy, Capitalism, White Supremacy, and Puritanism.
Social Justice Panel/Roundtable: Discussing the development of our counseling identity as social justice advocates with attention to the impacts of racism, systemic oppression, and injustice.
Celebrate Black Austin Walking Tours: Founded by SSW alum and former CSJ chapter President Jane Obi, the annual CBA tour honors the legacy of Black Austinites with a walking tour through historic landmarks of East Austin amplifying voices and stories from the Black community.
Book Club: Monthly meeting and discussion on books including Resmaa Menakem鈥檚 My Grandmother鈥檚 Hands and Jennifer Mullan鈥檚 Decolonizing Therapy.
Promoting Rest/Healing: Community wide yoga and breathwork events at SSW focused on intentionality around sitting with and advocating for social justice.
Trainings/Resources: Partnering with CSJ National for trainings, seminars, conferences, and advocacy opportunities.
