Job Summary

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Canaan, CT is seeking an Associate Rector to join our clergy team with Rector, Peter Walsh, and Senior Associate, Elizabeth Garnsey.

St. Mark’s is a Jesus-centered and energetic parish of 1,600 members (~300 ASA, plus live stream audience) one hour from New York City. We are pursuing our mission to go and make disciples who live a deeper life in Christ, a more holy communion with one another, and a greater love for the world. Our , our YouTube (@stmarksnewcanaan), Instagram (@stmarksnewcanaan), and weekly podcast (), provide an excellent view into our life together.

For our next Associate Rector, we seek a parish priest energized by celebrating, preaching, teaching, and pastoring a faith-filled, loving, engaged, and resourced congregation as part of an outstanding clergy team and talented lay staff. The Associate will focus on outreach and service ministries (including a program aligned with Jesus’ call to serve in Matthew 25), and youth ministry, and will be an equal third of the Rev’d Up podcast panel. This is a position for a priest who brings curiosity, warmth, and theological depth to every context, from the pulpit to the podcast to a high school gathering.

The ideal candidate will have been a parish priest for a few years looking for a place to live into your call where you can have specific areas of influence without having to be all things to all people.

Requirements

• Ordination to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church (or another church in the Anglican Communion in good standing)
• Master of Divinity degree
• A deep and evident personal faith and commitment to the Jesus-centered, disciple-making mission of St. Mark’s
• Demonstrated gifts in preaching, teaching, and pastoral care
• Experience with and genuine passion for youth and young adult ministry
• Warmth, humor, intellectual curiosity, and an ability to connect authentically with people of all ages
• Collaborative and collegial approach to parish ministry within an experienced professional staff
• Comfort with media and digital communication (podcast participation, livestreamed worship, social media)
