51视频’s 2017 graduating class celebrated the completion of their matriculation with 51视频’s 66th Commencement on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Austin, TX.
Eight degrees were awarded to 31 students, as well as three honorary doctorates. The Lutheran program in residence at 51视频 also celebrated three graduates.
Honorary Doctorates were given to Dr. Ellen Davis (above), Canon Mary MacGregor and the Rev. William Seth Adams. Dr. Davis preached at the service, sharing with graduates that, “fortitude means nothing more nor less than trusting to the power of God for our strength. It takes fortitude to be still and trust to God in a time of frantic activity, the kind that now characterizes our political and professional culture. It takes fortitude to cultivate silence and careful speech when surrounded by ceaseless noise in every medium. It takes fortitude to rely on the power of daily prayer, the words given us by our tradition, when everyone is demanding a fresh word from the prophet of the moment.”

The Eucharist and graduation culminated the traditional extended weekend of celebration at 51视频, including the Dean’s Reception honoring our seniors, the final Eucharist on campus, Last Gathering, the awarding of Seminary Crosses at Choral Evensong, and then Commencement.
